The 12-time domestic champions Shakhtar have been confidently topping this season’s league table

The Orange-and-Blacks are 13 points clear of Zorya Luhansk and Dynamo Kyiv.

Breakaway repeated

This is the fourth year when the Ukrainian Championship comprises 2 stages. In Paulo Fonseca’s first season 2016/17, Shakhtar completed the first stage with a 14-goal lead. Luis Castro has repeated the achievement. This lead is twice as big as in the rest of seasons (6 and 7 points).

Two Clasico wins

For the first time in the current format, the Miners have defeated Dynamo on both occasions in the first stage. In the 3rd round at the NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv, the score was 2-1 (Moraes, Marlos); and in the 14th round at the OSK Metalist in Kharkiv, they won 1-0 (Kryvtsov). Mircea Lucescu enjoyed 4 seasons with Shakhtar beating their major competitors twice (2004/05, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2015/16).

Popular scoreline

Luis Castro’s men claimed 19 victories. The most popular scorelines are 3-0 (Karpaty, Karpaty, Olimpik) and 1-0 (Desna, Dynamo, Desna). The Orange-Blacks claimed each of the following scores twice: 2-1 (Dynamo, Zorya), 2-0 (Lviv, Dnipro-1), 4-0 (Olimpik, Vorskla), 4-1 (Lviv, Dnipro-1), and 4-3 (Zorya, Kolos).
