In the second friendly at the training camp in Austria, Shakhtar faced Poland’s vice-champions Rakow
The starting lineup of Roberto De Zerbi team had a place for every Shakhtar newcomer: Marlon made up a centre-back pairing with Vitao, while Dodo and Korniienko played on the flanks, Pedrinho appeared in midfield with his compatriots Maycon, Patrick and Tete, as well as Mudryk, and Traore got the usual centre-forward role.
End-to-end action
Early in the match, the teams outlined their open football intentions: Arak hit the crossbar from about 13 metres, Pedrinho responded with his dangerous attempt – the deflected ball went just inches above the goal. From the first minutes, the Poles were actively putting pressure on the opposing penalty area, and this quickly brought them success: Arak intercepted the ball and fed Kun who shot straight inside the left corner and brought Rakow in front. The Orange-and-Blacks had a good chance to level the score midway through the first half: Patrick completed the move involving Korniienko and Traore, but the opposing goalkeeper coped with the captain's kick. In the very next attempt following a Dodo pass, Lassina Traore could score one himself, but Arsenic saved his attempt at the last moment. Shortly before the break, the Shakhtar keeper had to showcase his reflexes: Shevchenko alternately parried away unpleasant shots by Arak and Kun.
Incomplete comeback
Before the second half, De Zerbi made only one change in the team by fielding Solomon instead of Mudryk. From the off, Shakhtar started looking for chances at the Poles' goal, this time Traore produced a powerful effort from the semi-circle in front of the penalty area (goalkeeper save), and Korniienko fired a long-ranger (just wide). In the 64th minute, Konoplya, Mampassi, Cipriano, Marcos, Tankovskyi, Ocheretko, Bondarenko and Dentinho came on as Shakhtar subs. The Brazilian striker immediately got down to work and in the very first attack headed the ball into the back of the net, but the officials disallowed the goal due to an offside position. And in the next episode, the ref pointed to the spot for a foul on Cipriano, with the penalty being converted by Ivi Lopez. In the 81st minute, the Orange-and-Blacks managed to reduce the deficit: the counterattack that involved half of the team was rounded off by Manor Solomon’s precision strike from outside the box. But despite the siege in the dying ten minutes, Shakhtar failed to achieve more than 1-2.
The Miners will play their next test game on Monday, July 5, against the German club Turkgucu. It kicks off at 18:00. The live broadcast is available on Shakhtar TV and on Shakhtar Club.
