On September 22, Shakhtar faced Dynamo in the Ukrainian Super Cup clash

Previously, the teams met to challenge this trophy on 13 occasions, but the Miners' last triumph happened four years ago. Despite the packed calendar, Roberto De Zerbi fielded the strongest ones: Maycon, Stepanenko, Alan Patrick played in midfield, with Pedrinho and Marlos operating as wingers.

Unbeatable Pyatov, smashing Traore

The major event in the opening minutes was a break after a tough collision between Ismaily, Matviienko and Supryaha. All the participants in that situation were able to continue playing, but the Donetsk side’s central defender had a head cut and played with a bandaged head until the end of the match. The first chance was created by the Kyiv outfit, however ... at their own goal: Boyko exchanged vulnerable passes with a defender, and Patrick was close to sending the ball into the back of the net after his jump. But after a few minutes, it got hot in the Miners’ penalty area: Supryaha hit the near post from a tight angle, with Tsyhankov failing to flick home the deflected ball from a point-blank range. Andriy Pyatov immediately showcased his great reflexes by palming Buyalskyi's attempt away just in front of the crossbar. By the middle of the first half, the play calmed down, but at that very moment the Miners caught the opponents down the wing: Dodo delivered it into the penalty area, Marlos failed to send it goalwards, but Lassina Traore finished the episode by heading the ball just inside the far post, making it 1-0. The end of the first half saw some tight competition, but without any scoring chances, therefore the teams left for the break with Shakhtar’s narrow lead.

Lassina's double, Patrick's stunner, De Zerbi's first trophy

And it was the Donetsk team who started the second half just like a tornado, promptly extending the lead to seal the win. First, Stepanenko shattered the woodwork with his long-range attempt, and in the 54th minute Ismaily's slaloming run down the left wing was crowned with a cross into the penalty area, where the same Lassina Traore scored his second goal for the team! Alan Patrick just finished off the opponents by daring to make a scoring attempt from about a 20-metre range and hit right where the spiders live, making it 3-0. In the remaining time, both coaches used all their substitutions: Solomon, Marcos Antonio, Sikan, Konoplia and Kryvtsov took the pitch for the Donetsk team. In the dying minutes, Sergii rescued the team by denying Buyalskyi's attempt, but in general there were next to zero chances to change the score.

3-0 – Shakhtar whitewashed Dynamo and raised the Ukrainian Super Cup!

At 17:00 on Saturday September 25, the Miners will face Veres in the UPL game. And as soon as September 28, Roberto De Zerbi’s men will have the Champions League match against Italy’s Inter. The games will take place at the NSC Olimpiyskiy. The tickets are on sale now.
