Before the match
There are only 5 rounds left until the end of the league campaign. Shakhtar confidently top the table, being 9 points clear of the nearest pursuers. This season, the Miners have already set several records, in particular, for the number of clean sheets in the UPL. Having thrashed Lviv 5-0, the Orange-and-Blacks extended their scoring run to 22 goals, with no goals conceded.
All meetings vs Oleksandriia this season were not easy, but Shakhtar managed not only to claim 9 points but also to keep their goal intact (2-0, 2-0, 1-0). Ahead of Saturday's game, they held an open training session, in which reporters could pose their questions to the goalkeeper Oleksii Shevchenko and the midfielder Tete. There are a few pieces of personnel news in the team camp. The goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov returned to the general group after injury, David Khocholava served the suspension and is ready to take the pitch again.
We want to point out that the next goal by Shakhtar will be their 200th league goal under Paulo Fonseca. The tickets are available at the ticket office of OSK Metalist and online, at shakhtar.com.
Oleksandriia are as close as possible to becoming the bronze medalists in the Ukrainian League for the first time in their history. They are 10 points ahead of Zorya. The opponents started the second stage of the UPL with suffering a defeat at the hands of Shakhtar, then they beat Lviv and Mariupol, but lost to the Luhansk team 0-2. The teams will still meet each other in the penultimate round. A week ago, Volodymyr Sharan’s men were tied with Dynamo away (1-1), having the lead from the 8th to the 65th minute.
Oleksandriia have no suspended players before the clash in Kharkiv. Vasyl Hrytsuk is injured. It should be pointed out that Valerii Luchkevych, Andrii Tsurykov, and Anton Shendryk left the field early in the encounter with Dynamo, but there is no information about the severity of their injuries.
In 17 UPL matches, Shakhtar secured 15 wins, Oleksandriia won once, plus there was 1 draw. The aggregate goal difference is 34-11. The Miners scored goals in absolutely every game.
Previous league meeting
On 3 April, the goal by Junior Moraes in the 12th minute from the spot earned by Wellington Nem turned out to be decisive. The home team could have equalised midway through the half, but a crossbar rescued Shakhtar after Tsyrykov’s attempt. Shakhtar’s Bolbat had a couple of great chances, and Pyatov coped with Kovalets’ cannon shot – 0-1.
